without cardio you’ll get get great abs, because on your stomach there is a layer of fat which conceals the muscle (6 pack), and that can only be removed with cardio excerise: running, cycling etc. You will need to burn that fat off before inorder to the muscles underneath……

Yea if your sore that means the muscles are still healing so you need to lay off using them. Like I said in another comment muscles grow when you rest them. When you train your muscles rip in to a pull apart from each other you rest them to give um time to grow back togeather.

    I’ll throw this …
I’ll throw this little bit of info out there. Before you eat any meals (breaksfast, lunch, dinner) do as many push ups, sit ups, and squats as you can, by doing that you wake your matabolisum (i know it’s mispelled) up and get it to running which make’s you burn the fat you get from eating, if you over weight this can be very helpful, also for the people that are overweight don’t worry about stength training yet, focus on high cardio routines until you get the weight down then start training.
