Your Strength Training Routine and Proportionality, What You Need To Know…

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

One of the main things you need to strive for whenyou are at the gym is proportionality. Many times I will see guys walking around with a chest and arms that are huge, but they wear sweat pants because they don’t want you to see how they ignore their leg workouts. Give me a break with that stuff; you need to work out so your body is a matching set.

There are questions about the best way to accomplish this goal. Nearly everyone you see has some part that is out of proportion. Even some of the top dogs in the business have aspects that are slightly out of proportion. The trick to getting your body into top shap
e is staying with a strategic steady schedule. It’s not really a trick, but more like common sense, but you wouldn’t think so if you look around the gym.

There are a few different ways to accomplish this goal, but I think that I have found the best way. Dividing your time between your different parts is a must. When I am talking about ‘different parts’ I am meaning one day you concentrate on chest, one day legs, etc. Rotation of exercise is also key factor to keeping your body guessing at what is coming up next. For example, if you are doing bicep exercises you don’t want to do hammer curls day after day and think that your biceps are going to have the best shape ever!

You have to mix it up in various fashions. To start with, staying with the same example, hammer curls are a compound exercise, involving many more muscles than just the bicep. So, you want to do some isolation exercises to shock the muscle; jump on the preacher curls, or crank up the weight or turn your sets upside down. There are lots of ways to get that shock to your system that is going to promote maximum growth and sculpt the muscle the way you want it to be. Of course, I go into this in much more detail in my RIPPED Weight Training book.

That sort of shock to your muscles promotes better development of the muscles, but an even bigger part of the proportionality is making sure your body parts match. Do you have one bicep bigger than the other? Do you have the toothpick legs? Be honest with yourself. If you think other people are so struck with your arms that they don’t notice your legs (or your long sweat pants in the middle of summer) you are wrong. The greatest structures on earth have the best foundations. Your legs are your foundation; you need to make them strong and solid, like the base of a pyramid.

Give yourself an honest assessment and have a friend critique you. Tell them to be brutally honest and then don’t get all defensive. At least don’t let them know you are unhappy about what they say. They are doing you a favor, so be a man about it and thank them.

The thing I am really trying to emphasize here is that you are making the best you; if you are doing the right things at the gym. If you are not doing the right things, hey, if you are satisfied with looking out of balance, maybe you should find another discipline than bodybuilding. This sport is about building the perfect body. Don’t get me wrong, all bodies aren’t going to look the same. Your perfect body won’t look exactly like anyone else’s, but it will be the right one for you, if you pay attention to your proportions and make them right.

Proportionality is one of the pillars of the ripped system because I think it is a foundation of bodybuilding. Next time you are in the gym take a look around and I am sure you will agree; the best physiques are proportional.

I Read the RIPPED Weight Training e-book and all I can say is WOW!

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I read the RIPPED Weight Training e-book and all I can say is WOW! I thought this was going to be another one of those “all-hype, no information” type of book, but that wasn’t the case at all. Steve’s e-book contained a lot of information I never heard before, along with a clear-cut method of applying the knowledge. Combined with the concise workout routines on the website, this makes a dynamite contribution to my quest for a R.I.P.P.E.D. physique.

There are many books out there on the internet and in my local bookstore, but I have to say the information contained in the RIPPED Weight Training e-book has an in-your-face, here are the facts approach that is refreshing. It doesn’t try to tell you that you’re going to gain 20 pounds of muscle and cut your fat percentage to 10% overnight or anything like that; it’s the real deal.

Steve’s take-no-prisoners attitude has me in the gym working harder probably than ever before in my life, but I am finally getting the results I’ve always wanted. There is no magic pill or supplement that can replace getting in the gym and moving iron. The secret here is making the best use of your time by having the right mind-set and the right exercises to do. RIPPED Weight Training combines that with the right diet and cardio program; it is a total package. I have to say I am totally happy with the results I am getting.Steve has a unique way of expressing himself, and the points he makes are like nothing I’ve ever read before. His no-nonsense approach combined with a touch of humor made reading the book and getting into the guts of bodybuilding a snap. The testimonials on the web site  show the results from his methods are real, and that has me hitting the gym with a new intensity. I know that I can get the body I want from using this cutting-edge information.

Thanks Steve for showing me the most effective way to fast results!

Bodybuilders: Do Supplements for Building Muscle Actually Work

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Serious bodybuilders know the importance of gaining muscle mass and some will do anything to get the upper edge including a few who may even go the illegal and unsafe route of steroids. Most conscientious bodybuilders who wish to avoid the health dangers of steroids, not to mention the stigma attached to the unfair and illegal use of these substances can still appreciate the benefits that legal bodybuilding supplements can give them. While there are many bodybuilding supplements available, they can be broken down into four major categories including proteins or amino acids, multivitamins, creatine based supplements, and supplements engineered to accomplish specific goals. It is the goal of this article to further discuss each type of supplement and how they may benefit a bodybuilder.

Proteins are the energy source needed for growing muscle and amino acids are the building blocks of the proteins. Proteins are often used by bodybuilders and because they occur naturally in nature, they are completely safe for human consumption. In order to build muscle, bodybuilder must supply their body with the basic building blocks needed to feed new tissue growth. Protein is this necessary building block and without it muscle tissue would break down instead of grow. The protein supplements can be broken down into four categories with each having different absorption rates and uses. Whey proteins break down quickly and therefore are best taken after a workout when the body is deep into the muscle building state. Casein proteins absorb slowly and our best taken before bed. Egg-based and Soy based proteins have a medium absorption rate and can be taken at any time and while the soy based proteins are not as effective in bodybuilding, they are considered to have additional health benefits for women. Some companies that manufacture protein supplements blend all four proteins together.

Multivitamins are supplements that combine the essential vitamins and minerals that all human beings need. While anybody can benefit from multivitamins, bodybuilders need them more than the average person due to the fact that they are continuously breaking down tissue in order to build new muscle mass. While there are many companies that produce multivitamins, if you are growing muscle mass, it is best to choose a product specifically engineered with a bodybuilder in mind. A word of caution is needed here because although vitamins and minerals do occur naturally, taking more then the recommended dosage can result in dangerous and toxic effects.

Creatine based supplements work to increase muscle mass and add extra energy during a workout. While Creatine is naturally occurring in the body and considered to be safe and effective, it has developed a somewhat negative reputation in the past. More recently creatine is becoming more accepted in the body building world and scientific evidence suggest that it is useful for any bodybuilder who wishes to increase muscle mass and energy levels. This supplement comes in capsules, liquid, and powder forms and is often combined with protein supplements for enhanced effect. While many bodybuilders suggest that creatine is not absolutely necessary, a lot of serious athletes have begun using this substance in combination with other supplements for increased muscle growth.

There are a great number of bodybuilding supplements available, many of which have been engineered for specific needs. While it is beyond the scope of this article to discuss each and every one I will talk about some of the more popular. Glutamine is an amino acid found in muscle tissue and works to prevent muscle breakdown and helps increase the speed of recovery. Supplements such as natural testosterone boosters work to gain muscle and enhance mood while anabolic flavones are non hormonal flavones that increase protein absorbtion and work well when mixed with protein. Nitic oxide is also a naturally occurring supplement and works to increase blood flow while the ZMA mineral formula is said to increase anabolic levels and elevate testosterone levels. Most of the engineered supplements are quite new and have been in development for only about the past 8 years.

With all the bodybuilding supplements available it can be extremely difficult for someone to decide what works best for them and what works will ultimately depend on what your goals as a bodybuilder are, what type of a workout schedule you use, and how much muscle mass you wish to gain. There is no set in stone program that works for everyone with each individual having different needs. Hopefully this article will give you an idea of what is available and what may work for you.

Is it possible to do serious muscle building and also be a vegetarian /vegan?

Monday, May 4th, 2009

I have recently started building muscle on a high protein diet. This involves eating meat, but I have been thinking about becoming a vegetarian or vegan. Is there anyone here who manages to balance a meat free lifestyle with a very muscular physique?
It is possible. You’ll just have to get your protein from a different source. Beans are a good source of protein. You can also buy protein shakes, powders and bars.

Muscle Building Facts You Did Not Know

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Muscle building is a great experience and also a hobby that is highly recommended, since it is rewarding and also gives you some really great benefits; such as better look, increased strength, improved confidence and overall, a healthy body. It is a known fact that muscle is much more attractive than fat. Muscle building and fat loss go hand in hand. Muscle building helps in improving your actual physique along with overall health. There are many health benefits to muscle building. The mass of muscle is approximately half as big as the mass of fat deposits.

Don’t be surprised if you are exercising in order to lose weight but actually end up gaining weight. It is not a shocking or bad thing really and there is no reason to be sad about it. Such weight gain means you are building muscle mass and you will look much better than you were before. You will look slimmer around your waist. Muscle building includes burning calories very rapidly. Muscles tend to use energy, but fat just stores it. So when you have more muscles, you will tend to burn more energy and maintain a healthy body weight more easily.

In order to gain maximum benefits, it is not essential to build a lot of muscle mass. According to study, building five pounds of muscle mass will make you healthier and provide ability to fight off disease. Just thirty minutes thrice a week is enough to reach your goal.

The most obvious and common ways to muscle building is weight lifting. But there are other ways by which you can improve muscle building. They are running, swimming and even just brisk walking. Brisk walking actually means walking rapidly.

Another essential fact about muscle building is diet maintenance. If you are lean and wish to develop a better physique, you will definitely need to maintain a good diet. So, you will need to change your eating habits in order to maintain your newfound looks. Even lean people can gain a lot. Hence you should eat healthier diet, which will help you to improve your physical and mental health and allow you to have more strength and energy to do things.

Muscle Building Nutrition Program - Part 2

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

http://www.LeeHayward.com

In part 1 of the Basic Bodybuilding Nutrition Program I covered proper nutrient intake of protein, carbohydrates, fat, and water. And the amounts of each that you should be consuming daily based on your individual needs and fitness goals. In part 2 I’m going to outline some practical ways that you can fit a healthy eating plan into your busy lifestyle.

The whole idea of eating 6 well-balanced meals per day is by no means a new concept. Most of you who are reading this already have a good idea of how you should be eating. But for the majority of people the main excuse is they don’t have the time to eat properly.

But this is just not the case. Eating a “junk-food” diet probably takes just as much or more time then it does to eat a healthy diet. At lunch time getting in your car and heading on over to the fast food joint, waiting in line at the drive through, and then heading back to work takes a lot more time then if you had your food prepared in advance and ready to eat.

The key to successfully following a healthy bodybuilding nutrition program is planning ahead. When you cook your food always prepare for several meals. It doesn’t take any more time to cook larger quantities of food then it does to cook smaller amounts of food for just one meal. Purposely plan to have left overs that you can re-heat in the microwave, this saves time and makes it easier to have quick nutritious meals on hand. I’ll often grill several steaks at a time, cook several chicken breasts at a time, bake several potatoes at a time, cook up a large pot of rice, etc.

A Well Stocked Kitchen

In order to prepare and eat healthy nutritious meals you need to have the necessary kitchen supplies. Get yourself a good set of pots, non-stick frying pans, measuring cups and spoons, food scale, a good set of kitchen knives, blender, kitchen grill (such as the George Foreman grill), electric kettle, good spatulas and other cooking utensils like tongs, ladel spoons, etc. These are the basic tools that you’ll need to prepare your meals.

For packing and storing your food you will also need to get some plastic food storage containers. Get a half dozen smaller sized containers for packing individual meals. And also get a few bigger containers that you can use for storing left overs in the refrigerator. Make sure to get good containers with tight fitting lids so they will not pop open easily.

Get a couple shaker bottles for mixing up protein drinks and also get an insulated lunch bag or small hand held cooler for taking your food with you to work. You will be able to get all of these kitchen supplies at places like Wal-Mart for a fair price.

What is the truth about muscle building pills?

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

So I was reading Men’s Fitness on a plane and saw a bunch of muscle building pills, and a bunch of other ads for electronic muscle stimulation and stuff.

The electric machine sounds like bullcrap, but I was wondering if taking the muscle pills before/after a workout was really that beneficial.

If they are, what are the good ones to use, and what would you buy?

Thanks.

There are bad and good pills to help you loose weight. Don’t take anything that says it will reduce appetite. That can cause all kinds of side effects. Also, alot of those pills contain high amounts of speed which is never good.

For the good pills, take natural supplements. You will also need to exercising for them to work properly. If exercising, I recommend Slimmetry dietary supplement. All it contains is Green Tea Extract, Yerba Mate Extract, Birch Extract.
Some others:
CLA 500 to help reduce fat and promote lean muscle retention

Glucose Health includes chromium picolinate, an essential trace mineral that plays an important role in activating a key enzyme involved in metabolism.

Another good supplement is Carb Blocker 2 which helps block absorption of both sugars and starches.

Go to http://Arcameda.com and search the site for these items or click on Weight Management then supplements. Exercising and drinking plenty of water.
